About the role
We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer to join our team in Madrid (remote-friendly across Spain). You will be embedded with a major telecom operator, designing and building the data platforms that power their OSS/BSS (Operations and Business Support Systems). This is a role for an experienced data engineer who understands the unique challenges of telecommunications data — high volumes, complex network topologies, and the need for real-time observability.
What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines that underpin OSS/BSS platforms for a leading telecom operator.
- Integrate and transform network, service, and customer data across diverse source systems using Python, SQL, and modern ETL/ELT frameworks.
- Partner with network engineering and product teams to translate complex telecom data requirements into reliable, scalable solutions.
- Improve data observability, lineage, and governance across the telecom data estate.
- Contribute to platform architecture decisions around data storage, processing, and delivery patterns.
What we are looking for
- 7+ years in data engineering roles, with strong experience in the telecom or utilities sector.
- Solid understanding of OSS/BSS concepts — inventory management, service assurance, network monitoring, fault management, and billing systems.
- Strong SQL, Python, and data modelling skills with experience designing warehouse and lakehouse schemas.
- Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT frameworks and cloud-native data platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Comfortable working with large-scale, event-driven data architectures and batch/streaming hybrid patterns.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with telecom data standards (TM Forum Open APIs, 3GPP, SNMP/MIB).
- Experience with real-time streaming technologies (Kafka, Google Pub/Sub) for network event processing.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi) and CI/CD for data pipelines.
- Knowledge of FinOps or cloud cost optimisation for data workloads.
